DOMAIN SCAMS. These happen once your details are available on the internet because you have registered as owner of a domain name. They can be expensive.

Scam One...... selling a similar domain name.

A Company will ring you up and say they have a client wanting to register a domain name like yours. EG you own widgets.co.uk and their "client" wants to register widgets .eu

But they thought you should have the chance to register it first. And do you have your credit card. Just hang up, but remember the person on the other end of the phone does this all day and will have a number of strategies up their sleeve. Don't give them chance.

Scam Two..... renew your domain "Official Notice"

This is mainly directed by the so-called "Domain Registry of America" to UK based owners of .com, .net and other domains. You get a very official looking "Notice" Pay up, please, (and transfer your domain to us because you haven't read the small print. Typical address is an accommodation mail box in Gloucester Road. File in waste paper basket.

Keeping your address secret... a related article will be published soon
