We have more information on Cedric which gives us grounds for guarded optimism. He refused private treatment and has recently been admitted to his local cottage hospital. Test are being carried out, but due to budgetary cuts in the National Elf Service, results are still awaited. He is feeling a liitle better, and thanks everyone for their good wishes.

This site is owned by a couple of professional builders who renovate larger properties in student areas of Sheffield at very low rents for the quality. They contain costs because of their professional skills and their lack of dependance on bank borrowing. The website is a popular one amongst the student community. It won't win a prize for design quality (Neither would Amazon) But it might win one for effectiveness.The owners say that they are fully let weeks before other owners. This is in the light of a very high level of web awareness in the student community. The website's front page has a casual and cheerful look, with immediate details of every property available easily accessible, thus saving the need for expensive paper brochures.

Upgraded Version of Webmail

A new version of webmail has been loaded up to the servers. If you click on the webmail login item you will immediately see a different login page. I am preparing detailed documentation but I hope the built in information is sufficient. Please note that until the 20th August you can use the old system but I recommend you have a try with the new one. If you have any problems (I don't think you will) please let me know.

Joomla Versions

I know a number of my clients use Joomla, as do I, but my current advice to anyone considering uprgrading from Joomla 1.5 to 1.6 is don't

There's nothing wrong with Joomla 1.6 at all but you can't upgrade easily from 1.5 to 1.6

You will howver, if plans go right, be able to upgrade from 1.5 to 1.7

Definitive version of 1.7 is due in August. Please check www.joomla.org for details.

I currently have some spare server space available for anyone using Joomla who wants to try out 1.7 beta. This will be free of charge. Please contact me in July for this.

EU rules and Your website

On 26th May new requirements about cookies were imposed on the UK by the EU. Basically, as I understand it, the use of cookies will not be prohibited, but if cookies are used on a website, the specific consent of the visitor must be obtained to the use of a cookie. A number of sites which we maintain use cookies.

There will be more information soon but in the meantime please contact Peter if you have any concerns. I shall be writing to eveyone concerned before the end of June after reviewing, where appropriate, usage of cookies on the website we have designed. The ICO has given website owners twelve months to comply fully with these new legislative requirements.
